Your brand voice
Most businesses will invest an incredible amount into making sure that their visual brand identity is perfect. We certainly did, and we couldn’t be happier with the results!
This makes sense; your design elements contribute a huge amount to that all important first impression. And your logo is how customers will come to recognise your brand at a glance.
A brand is more than a logo
Strong branding is more than choosing your colours, and designing a beautiful logo. Branding is about communicating your brand’s values and personality in everything you say and do.
And that means the words you use, and the style of your communications needs to be as carefully crafted as everything else.
What is a brand voice?
When you’re establishing a strong and identifiable brand, you should always give time and thought to how you want to communicate.
Should your tone be formal? Or more conversational? What kind of words do you want to use? Are there particular phrases that convey something special about your brand?
A tone of voice document will allow you to make clear choices about how your brand speaks to your customers. And then you can share those decisions with anyone who might write content for your business now or in the future.
There are other important copy-related decisions to be made when establishing a brand, too:
- What’s your strapline?
- Do you want to come up with special names for your products or services?
- What keywords are you targeting for SEO, and what kind of content will you use to do that?
Influence how customers see you
Every decision, down to what copy you use on your Call to Action buttons and banners, will have an impact on your audience’s perception of your brand.
People make subconscious decisions about a brand based on so many things. Colours and images play a huge part, but so do the words. And it’s not just about the overall message you’re sharing…
Individual word choices, the length of a paragraph, even whether or not you use contractions can make a difference!
At Hatter’s, we can help with your initial branding exercise by getting to know your business, and creating a tone of voice document that works hand-in-hand with the other elements of your brand, for a seamless experience.
If you’re an established brand and we’re writing content for you, we can review your existing tone of voice document for free, and if we spot any potential ways to improve it we’ll let you know.
